Imagine a bridal shower where the guests glaze unique stoneware dishes for the bride. Imagine soft clay spinning under your fingers as you shape a bowl at a pottery lesson. Imagine selecting a gift at a charming showroom of stunning handcrafted pottery. Imagine no more, Fire and Muck Pottery Studio is now open! In this charming studio, tucked into a forest hideaway located halfway between Salem and Rolla, Missouri, your instructor Kerry Collins will share with you her passion for this timeless art form. Kerry’s professional career spans decades as a gourmet chef, restauranteer, and culinary arts instructor. For the past few years, Kerry has intensely focused on perfecting her skills as a potter. Fire and Muck, where did that name come from? Kerry explains, “the kiln fires at 2200 degrees, and if you’ve ever handled wet clay, you know where the muck comes from.”

By appointment, customers can visit her showroom of custom crafted and glazed pieces for sale. She offers pottery lessons: an 8 week course of three hour lessons per week consists of throwing instruction, 25 lbs of clay, bisque and glaze firings of the finished pieces. Parties (birthday, bridal, retirement, etc.) of up to eight persons can be arranged with Kerry as well. “I’m limiting the group to eight in order to give each participant individual attention for the piece they create”, Kerry states.

As visitors enter the studio, they will notice the beautifully painted scripture on the wall of the showroom, ‘Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words’ (Jeremiah 18:2). As Kerry explains, “I founded my studio upon my faith, it is my guiding principle.”
